Doofus of the day

Have you ever arrived a day early for your flight?

There is a first time for everything.

Former Ballito resident Donovan Muirhead, who now lives in Umhlanga, woke up early on Wednesday morning, thrilled to head to Fancourt Golf Course in George, Western Cape for three days of golf and a little conferencing on the side.

Muirhead was a very busy man, overseeing different projects and flying all over the country for board meetings.

Looking forward to some down time, he wiped the sleep from his eyes, had a quick shower and a shave and put on his brand new golf outfit.

As the North Coast sun began peeking over the sugarcane hills, Muirhead arrived at King Shaka International Airport.

“I went straight to the check-in counter as always and gave the friendly lady behind the counter my driver’s license and surname,” said Muirhead.

Without looking at Muirhead’s licence, the check-in assistant typed in the first three letters of his surname and instantly the flight details for D Muirhead, also flying to George, popped up on the screen.

While printing his boarding pass, the attendant asked if he was part of a group as there were already two bags checked in under his name.

He was confused.

“How could I already have checked in my bags if I am here now to check in?” he asked, completely baffled.

Looking at the ticket, they both immediately realised the ticket was for another D Muirhead flying to George on the same flight.

As a good check-in assistant would do, she called up the correct Muirhead’s flight details.

“I burst out laughing when I realised I was a day early for my flight!”

Flabbergasted by the morning’s drama, Muirhead drove straight to Zimbali for a relaxing round of golf on his favourite course.
