Great big Durban cook-off
North Coast author will judge the curry cook-off at the Good Food and Wine Show.
Ballito’s own Erica Platter, author of the award winning cookbook Durban Curry – So Much Of Flavour, will be a special guest and judge at The Great Big Durban Curry Cook-Off, which closes this year’s Good Food and Wine Show.
The celebrity chefs will have to be on their toes to try and get Platter’s approval!
The cook-off will feature a curry mystery-box challenge between Jenny Morris and Rick Stein versus Reza Mahammad and MasterChef Australia winner Brent Owens.
Platter said she is quite terrified to judge their dishes!
“I can give them one little tip: Yoghurt and cream are not traditional in a Durban curry. Also, I hope they will read the copies of DUrban Curry which we are giving them. They will find the advice they need from the cooks and chefs who have shared their stories and recipes,” said Platter.
A few hours before the Durban Curry cook-off finale, Platter and chef Sandren Govender and will be cooking at the Good Food and Wine show.
“Sandren, executive chef at Jeera, will be cooking and I will be with him, chatting. He will demonstrate one of the best recipes from our Durban Curry book, his Three-Bean and Paneer curry. Including how to home-make your paneer! It is a delicious and different but very authentic Durban dish. And Sandren is one of our very best chefs,” she said.
Tickets to The Great Big Durban Curry Cook Off cost R50 and can be booked through Computicket with all proceeds going to the Starfish Foundation.
The Good Food and Wine Show Durban takes place from Friday, October 30 to Sunday, November 1 at the Durban Exhibition Centre in association with Durban Tourism.
Tickets available through Computicket or at the door.
