Wake Mahlobo drums up Luthuli Museum in Groutville

This performance at The Luthuli Museum is part of the Concerts SA Venue Circuit which aims to foster a love and support for live music in our communities

Internationally known musician, Wake Mahlobo is coming back home with his band and will visit Luthuli Museum in Groutville on Friday, March 3.
Mfanafuthi “Wake” Mahlobo is a passionate drummer, percussionist and vocalist, originally from KwaMashu, has been in the music industry for over 35 years and has toured the globe with various bands.
Mahlobo’s musical genes come from both of his parents, as his father was a tap dancer, pianist and vocalist, while his mother was a well-known singer.
While Mahlobo started singing, he later switched to drumming, inspired by the late jazz drummer, Nelson Magwaza.
His first band was known as Stax. They performed for young and old all over KZN and won a number of Battle of the Bands nationally, including the Lion Lager music competition held at the Market Theatre in 1984.
He went on to work with bands in Johannesburg and later formed a Jazz music project at the University of Natal.
Now, he is settled with his band consisting of Lebohang Qguwa on keys and vocals, Sandile Dlamini on bass and vocals, Aristides on lead guitar and Siyabonga Duma on the saxophone.
This performance at The Luthuli Museum is part of the Concerts SA Venue Circuit which aims to foster a love and support for live music in our communities, as well as anchor small and medium sized venues in urban and rural Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape.
The concert starts at 6pm at 3233 Nokukhanya Luthuli Street, Groutville and tickets cost R30 and are available at the door.
