Sugar and spice and all things nice

The 21-year-old Seatides resident decided to turn her passion to profit and opened her own home industry business - Getting Baked

A sweet tooth and passion for all things pretty saw young entrepreneur Bronwyn Perumal putting her creative genius to work and creating masterpieces in the form of cakes and other mouth-watering delights.

With a mixer acting as her magic wand, Perumal’s baking talent became popular when she took to posting unique cakes on Facebook that she baked for those close to her.

Last year the 21-year-old Seatides resident decided to turn her passion to profit and opened her own home industry business – Getting Baked.

“I cater for any occasion, mostly birthdays and baby showers. When I do things, I give it my all. I do not stop until everything is perfect.”

Perumal said her love for baking took form about three years ago when she used to help her mother in the kitchen.

“I am a very creative person and I was looking for something that I could experiment with. Some of my first really creative work was a birthday cake I baked for my dad. It looked like a McDonald’s burger and fries.

“The next big challenge I would like would be a wedding cake.”

The young entrepreneur, who is still studying, admitted that balancing her new business and academic life is sometimes difficult. She is working and studying industrial psychology at Varsity College.

“Sometimes I get home from work, do my assignments and start baking for a order that is due the next day. I have stayed up until the early hours of the morning to complete my orders,” she said.
