A mix of local flavors at the Lifestyle Foodies Market
The Lifestyle Foodies Market is on the first Saturday of every month outside Zara's Coffee Shop
Equipped with a friendly smile and homemade salad dressing, TasteBuds owner Stephanie Walker takes her spot at the Ballito Lifestyle centre’s foodies market once a month to showcase her products along with about 25 other artisans and entrepreneurs.
Based in Sheffield, the sassy inventor of tasty salad dressings started her business six months ago after retiring from working in the IT industry. Along with other entrepreneurs at the Lifestyle foodies market, Walker said she enjoys the vibe, the good music and meeting new people.
“I sell my salad dressings at the Spar but I feel like showcasing products at markets give them a personal touch. If you do not interact with clients, your product becomes just another bottle on the shelf,” she said.

Outdoor markets have become hugely popular country-wide – a more current take on the original farmers’ markets.
For years farmers from all over the world sold fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and sometimes prepared food and beverages.
The markets took place outdoors in booths, tables or stands. The trade became popular for reflecting the local culture and economy.
Their size ranged from a few stalls to several city blocks.
Ballito Lifestyle centre marketing manager Tessa Woodley said the Foodies Market is becoming more popular.

“We started the market three years ago and we invite local entrepreneurs to showcase their business. The market was very much about giving locals a platform to showcase a product range which focused on organic, fresh food. The popularity of the market has grown and the stall owners have given us great feedback, saying that they get a good response. The number of stalls range from 25-35 depending on the season.”
With live music, a relaxed atmosphere and an array of mouth watering aromas filling the air, people can look forward to everything from artisan breads, cupcakes, coffee and billtong to fresh lemonade pâtés and sauces.
