Farming God’s way at All Souls
Farming God's Way wants to take Africa from being the 'begging bowl' to the 'breadbasket of the world'
Denis Fortune and the All Souls Anglican Church will be hosting a one-day workshop on Farming God’s Way this week.
The workshop will be held on Wednesday, March 22 at the church in Sheffield from 9am till 4pm.
“Farming God’s Way is a natural, organic method for getting the most out of the Earth,” said Fortune.
Africa is the most poverty stricken of all the world’s continents, with approximately 750 million subsistence farmers struggling to support themselves with what they can grow.
Farming God’s Way wants to take Africa from being the ‘begging bowl’ to the ‘breadbasket of the world’.
Starting with a piece of land at the All Souls Church, Fortune has joined the ranks of others Farming God’s Way by growing a crop of mielies and beans.
“We have already harvested our first crop and have started on the second.
“Everything we use here is organic and we do not plow, only hoe. It is all about mulching properly to keep the nutrients and moisture in the soil.”
Fortune will share the methods he has learned to get the best yield out of the crop in a way affordable to all. The workshop will cost R100 per person. Fortune said sponsorship could be made available where applicable.
“The day will include the workshop on Farming God’s Way as well as tea and a small meal.
“I am hoping we can spread these skills – particularly in rural areas – so that they can be an example to all.”
Fortune has made a commitment to give away at least 10 per cent of each harvest.
There is space for 200 hundred people at the workshop, contact the All Souls Anglican Church at 032 525 4529 to book your spot.
