Gear up for jazz vibes in Groutville

The 24-year-old South African musician was born in Umlazi township, where he was introduced to jazz at an early age

Get ready for a night of soulful jazz as saxophonist, composer and arranger Linda Sikhakhane is coming to the Luthuli Museum live in concert on May 5.

The 24-year-old South African musician was born in Umlazi township, where he was introduced to jazz at an early age under the tutelage of the legendary Dr Brian Thusi and Khulekani Bhengu.

He later enrolled to study jazz music at the University of KZN under Prof Mageshen Naidoo.

The 2016 SAMRO overseas scholarship award winner has performed with respected artists, has featured on Nduduzo Makhathini’s Mother Tongue album and formed part of Afrika Mkhize’s Septet which performed at the Orbit’s second anniversary.

Sikhakhane is also a co-founder of hip hop group H3 from Durban. The line-up for the concert will be Sakhile Simani on flugel horn and trumpet, Sanele Phakathi on keys, Sphelelo Mazibuko on drums and Nhlanhla Radebe on double bass guitar.

This performance is part of the Concerts SA Venue Circuit which aims to grow a love and support for live music in local communities, as well as anchor small and medium sized venues in urban and rural Gauteng, KZN, and the Western Cape.

The doors open at 6pm and tickets are available at the door for R30.
