Moving to a township beat

The upcoming Shakaville kwaito musician said there is nothing he enjoyed more than his music

Growing up with a hip grandfather instilled the love of kwaito music in Ntusenhle “NtusiBoy” Sityatu Nene from an early age.

The upcoming Shakaville kwaito musician said there is nothing he enjoyed more than his music.

While he is yet to release an album he has produced eight singles, which have been the talk of the townships in KwaDukuza. His latest single “Ivosho” is especially hot right now.

Ivosho is a new dance form that is all the rage on the party scene.

“Although my grandfather enjoys old school kwaito music it made me realise that if an elderly person can enjoy the same genre as us youngsters, I could make music that would accommodate everyone.”

The 2012 Tshelenkosi (Shakaville) matriculate said the genre helps him stay out of trouble.

“If I am not studying I am at the studio, working hard to break into the music industry,” said Nene.

He said the highlight of his young career so far was being selected by house music icon DJ Oskido to perform at the KwaDukuza Festival.

“I was one of 15 artists selected out of 300 artists, it was surreal. Two years back I also performed at the Ballito Pro. The response from the crowd was electrifying and it boosted my confidence,” said Nene.

He is currently studying building construction at Umfolozi Tvet College in Mandeni. He hopes to one day take his studies further and become an architect.

“Instead of looking for a recording company to sign me I want to have my own studio. This way I will be able to do want I with my music,” said Nene.
