Mtunzini Rotary to host Art in the shade
The club last week announced the launch of an art fair and exhibition to be held in Mtunzini on 4 November

There is a symbiotic relationship between art and human endeavour of goodwill.
Art stimulates passion and emotion, as does the spirit of compassion of those who creatively work for the betterment of others.
It is therefore fitting that the fledgling Mtunzini Rotary Club decided to go large on an art-in-the-park concept to anchor its primary community service project this year.
The club last week announced the launch of an art fair and exhibition to be held in Mtunzini on 4 November.
Under the banner Art in the Shade, the long-term plan is to turn this multi-disciplinary creative fest into an annual event to underpin the local Rotary club’s major targeted community projects.
The open air event will provide KZN artists – painters, sculptors and photographers – with an ideal opportunity of reaching their markets in a festive and creative environment.
But while the main emphasis will be on the visual arts, performing arts disciplines such as drama and music will also be incorporated into the programme, as will crafts.
The organisers pointed out that Art in the Shade will not be a flea market, but rather a celebration of ‘fine art and culinary excellence’.
A steering committee is currently fine-tuning arrangements, but artists, catering establishments and sponsors who want to get on board early can contact Rotary festival coordinator Elize Viljoen on 082 3721669 or visit their Facebook page ‘Art in the Shade – Mtunzini Rotary’.
The beneficiary of this year’s art fair will be Emoyeni Holy Cross Hospice near Mtunzini, managed by Sister Pricilla Dlamini. With very limited resources, Emoyeni provides health, educational and physical survival support to thousands of HIV/Aids patients and orphans in child-headed homes.
