Miss Ballito pageant proceeds donated to charity

Proceeds from the Miss Ballito pageant were officially given to the North Coast Courier Orphan Fund and Bhejane Adventures for the Save the Rhino fund last Thursday

“There can be no greater gift than that of giving one’s time and energy to help others without expecting anything in return.”

Quoting the great Nelson Mandela, Zimbali Rotary honorary vice president Brian Elmes and president Julie Cloete handed over the fruits of their labour in the form of much-needed funds to the Rotary’s beneficiaries.

Proceeds from the Miss Ballito pageant were officially given to the North Coast Courier Orphan Fund and Bhejane Adventures for the Save the Rhino fund last Thursday.

North Coast Courier general manager Pieter Naudé thanked the Rotary for their ongoing contributions to The Orphan Fund.

“The fund provides support to many organisations.

“On July 19, we visited Frasers and handed out cupcakes from The Courier. It was a privilege to see how the money we donate helps children to get the food, clothes or school shoes that they need. Thank you very much to Rotary. This money goes toward very worthy causes.”

Since the Zimbali Rotary came into operation seven years ago, the small team of dedicated Rotarians managed to raise about R3 million from their various fund raising initiatives.

The funds support projects including, BriteEyes Cataract Surgery Camps, an education bursary fund, Summerhill House, The Orphan Fund, school libraries, health projects, school upgrades, youth programmes and St Luke’s Home of Healing.

The laid back and friendly evening at Zimbali Resort also served as an informative event where those interested in joining the Zimbali Rotary learned the in’s and out’s from the pros.
Cloete said August was themed as a membership and extension month where people were invited to join the rotary to make a positive difference.

“We service the Ilembe district and we are driven by the passion for our work. The Zimbali Rotary is a service organisation that comprises of business and professional people who are united world wide.

“Rotary International is spread over 200 countries and we provide humanitarian services and ensure ethical standards. Membership to our club is not reserved only for residents of Zimbali and anyone from the greater Ballito area is more than welcome and always has been.
