WIN a cake from Chateau Gateaux

Julia Child famously once said that a party without cake is really just a meeting. I tend to agree. The ‘fabulousness’ of the cake can make or break a celebration.

Baking your own cake can therefore be quite scary if you are not a master baker.

This is where Chateau Gateaux found their niche in the market with their decedent frozen cakes that you can keep in your freezer and whip out the night before to impress your guests.

I visited the Lifestyle Centre branch and, with the help of a few willing friends, sampled nine of the Gateaux which are available in whole cakes that can be purchased from the store.

I thought this would be a straight forward affair but you cannot believe how many factors go into trying to pick a favourite. Not only are the cakes quite different from one another, your mood and the time of day also play their part.

In my opinion Chateau Gateaux cakes are incredible value for money.

The cakes are available in a 24cm but some are also available in a 18cm. This allows you to use them as a second tier so you can build you own cake for special events at a fraction of the cost of getting a professional baker to do it. Prices range from R363 to R249 for the 24cm and R180 to R142 for the 18cm cakes.
