London calling for Ballito music student on a mission

Fill up your picnic basket, pack a blanket and enjoy an evening of musical theatre favourites.

A music student on a mission is putting on the Get to London Show at Crawford North Coast on July 25 at 7.30 for 8pm.

Ballito resident and former Crawford North Coast pupil Mervyn Bartholomew has scored the long-awaited chance to do his Masters in Musical Theatre Studies at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London starting in September and is now using his talent to make this a reality.

“I hope to come back from London and be part of the next generation of theatre directors and writers,” said Bartholomew.

The young performer already completed his diploma in Musical Theatre from Oakfields College, Pretoria, has been working in the performing arts industry for over two years and has just finished a nine-month international tour with The Sound of Music in South East Asia.

“Since graduating from Oakfields College I have been wanting to take my studies to Masters level. Not finding the opportunity available in South Africa, I took a shot in the dark and applied to colleges in London and hit the bulls-eye!”

This dream opportunity comes with a hefty price tage of 18 000 Pounds, so Bartholomew is taking to the stage to raise funds for his next career step.

So, fill up your picnic basket, pack a blanket and enjoy an evening of musical theatre favourites performed by Bartholomew in collaboration with some of the school’s top arts and culture performers as well as a couple of teachers.
