Lights, camera, action!

Seshen Brijmohun realised his passion for acting a year ago and once he got started, there was no turning back.

Shaka’s Head resident Seshen Brijmohun is taking the radio and TV industry by storm, one role at a time.

The 21-year-old education student said he realised his passion for acting a year ago and once he got started, there was no turning back.

He has since featured in popular local productions including the newly released South African cinema production Broken Promises 4 and Imbewu the Seed, a new local daily drama that aired on eTV in April this year.

“My friend was involved in radio drama and she introduced me to the industry. I started off by doing a radio series on Lotus Fm which I found fun.

‘It was all the more challenging because you would have to put more effort into playing your role well so that your audience can understand the context without actually seeing you.

‘I loved that at that moment you get to pretend to be someone who is completely different from yourself. I love roles where I get to play ‘the boss’ because that is so unlike me in real life.”

Brijmohun said his latest role in Imbewu the Seed was unexpected and the opportunity he had been waiting for. He hopes this will be the start of more television roles.

“I played the role of ‘Chandran’, the late father of one of the main characters. It was not a big role but I feel it is the start of bigger things.”

The previous Shakaskraal Secondary pupil who is also a trained property practitioner said his roles were secured by always keeping his ear to the ground and attending auditions.

He is currently exploring stage theatre as a stage manager and actor in a play, Hamesha & Forever 2.

“I will see where acting will take me and if everything works out, I would be more than happy to pursue it as a full-time career. Until then, I am a few modules away from completing my Bachelor of Education degree at UKZN.”
