Ever since he was a little boy, Ballito’s Yuveshan Pillay has been grooving to the beat and twirling the ladies and will be doing so on stage at the upcoming Shall We Dance show.
The 32-year-old Pillay said he was first introduced to the dance world by his parents.
“My parents were dancers and took me to social dancing at the age of nine. By the age of 10 I started competing,” said the spontaneous and outgoing character, who is an area manager by day.
He has mastered the art of Ballroom and Latin American dancing and is a 10 dance champion.

He has showed off his moves on stage locally and internationally and will be performing in Shall We Dance for the fourth time this year.
“In previous years, I only danced Latin American in the show, but this year I will also be dancing ballroom for the first time.”
He said being on stage is such an exhilarating feeling.
“I love being able to express myself on the dance floor and being on stage adds a major adrenaline rush,” said Pillay, who hopes to open his own dance studio one day.
If you have been trying to encourage your man to move to the rhythm with you but don’t quite know how to convince him, Pillay said the first step is to find a dance studio.
“There is always a shortage of male dancers and they will be welcome at any studio. Dancing is a social way to keep fit, besides gym, as you get to meet new people and it helps keep you stress free.”
Watch Pillay work his magic together with a host of other local and international dance stars at Shall We Dance showing at the Playhouse Opera from September 7 – 16.
The matinee show is at 3pm and evening shows at 7.30pm. Tickets start from R100 and are available from Computicket.
