Doing battle in the kitchen at Simbithi

The competition was extremely close but ultimately it was Hahndeik who took home bragging rights

Simbithi’s first KWV Celebrity Chef Challenge had two top chefs sweating in the kitchen to outdo one another while wine flowed freely on the packed restaurant floor and guests salivated over the three course meal, each dish better then the last.

Simbithi executive chef Daryn Bowers took on former Hartford House executive chef Constantijn Hahndeik with both men producing some of their best creations last Saturday night, August 25.

A chef Constantijn Hahndeik masterpiece: Springbok Lion with braised shank, black garlic, spring asparagus and cauliflower.

The talented Danny Fisher kept the audience dancing to his tune while the men cooked to a live feed broadcast into the Fig Tree restaurant.

The competition was extremely close but ultimately it was Hahndeik who took home bragging rights with his melt-in-your-mouth Springbok Lion and a deconstructed white chocolate dessert that had the guests begging for more.
