Ballito talents shine at Durban Fashion Fair
Ballito fashionista and international model, Pieter Black took to the catwalk, while Salt Rock designer Cari St-Quentin made a bright, nautical statement at the DFF.
The who’s who in the fashion world slipped into fabulous outfits and flocked to the annual Durban Fashion Fair (DFF) held at the ICC recently where two Ballito talents stole the show.
Young Salt Rock designer Cari St-Quentin designs ladies’ ready-to-wear clothing and made a bright, nautical statement at the DFF.
“As a 2018 Mentee, the DFF has gone above and beyond to give us as much guidance and exposure as possible which would otherwise not be available to a young designer like myself,” said St-Quentin, who was one of three mentees to win the Rising Star award at the event.

“I used unexpected fabrics such as aeronautical fabric – used for sails and parachutes – PVC and vinyl in my collection. I took forecast trends and put my own spin on them.”
Fellow Ballito fashionista and international model, Pieter Black took to the catwalk for various designers including the widely known label Markhams.
“The Markhams collection had a retro feel to it with traces of 80’s/90’s which was fun to wear,” said Black, who is passionate about promoting SA talent through his creative consulting agency Noir & Klohn.
“I am very optimistic during these troubled financial times to see what South African and African designers as a whole have to offer on a global scale. In a technical recession, I am excited to see the future jobs that will be created within the fashion industry.”

Black is also driven by responsible fashion and is one of the official ambassadors for Fashion Revolution SA – an initiative challenging local and international mega brands to become more brand transparent and ethical leading with #whomademyclothes.
“As consumer spirituality is increasing people now more then ever are more eager to support brands that are responsible and honest. It is about looking at clothes holistically – where the clothes are manufactured and under what conditions and making sure we support brands that look after their people as well.”
