Local beauty crowned Mrs Tourism World

Women from the ages of 18 and older went head-to-head to compete for five titles: Mrs Tourism Universe, Globe, World, Earth and International - each having to fulfill their respective duties throughout their year of reign.

After two weeks away from home, La Mercy’s Lisa Smart-Campos landed on South African soil this weekend after representing her country at the second edition of the Mrs Tourism pageant and ultimately being crowned Mrs Tourism World 2018.

“A Mother who cares for the World” is the tag-line of the international pageant, which is organised by Megastar Productions, presented by the City Government of Dapitan and hosted in the beautiful Zamboanga Del Norte province in the Philippines.

Women from the ages of 18 and older went head-to-head to compete for five titles: Mrs Tourism Universe, Globe, World, Earth and International – each having to fulfill their respective duties throughout their year of reign.

Each title holder is either married, divorced, widowed or a single mom from around the world who have a family, a career, and are involved in a “significant cause”.

For Campos, the opportunity to vie for one of the titles came after being crowned Mrs Tourism Globe South Africa in September.

“I had to raise the funds for the flights and for the entry within four short weeks,” said Campos, who is a wife, mother and CEO of the non-profit organisation, PINC.

“Once the entry had been paid and flights booked, it felt surreal!”

From the moment they set foot on Philippine soil, it was all systems go as the ladies prepared day and night for the main coronation event.

Despite staying in luxury resorts and experiencing all that the beautiful country had to offer, the 16 contestants spent most of their time perfecting their speeches and rehearsing.

After two gruelling weeks, Campos had made a striking impression on the judges and was crowned Mrs Tourism World 2018.

“Knowing there and then that dreams do come true, faith gets you through all challenges and I couldn’t have done any of these 12 days without my amazing family – that’s the real win!

Her duty now is to fulfill projects for her NPO, which she and her husband, Dario, co-founded in 2010, and any other charities who partner with them.

“Winning this title as Mrs World affords me the opportunity to use this platform to engage with local and international investors into our classroom building projects and into our dignity projects which need funders.”

“As Mrs Tourism World this year I believe that a mother who cares for the world is a woman who exudes the natural sense of being a mother, whether she has given birth naturally to her child or having passion, love, understanding, a special affection for children and the people of the world.”
