A festive season with Cinderella at the Sneddon

KickstArt’s 14th annual festive season family pantomime is a feast for the eyes.

Lush sets and gorgeous baroque costumes set the scene for a magical new production of the fairy tale favourite about the kitchen maid who wins the hand of a handsome prince: Cinderella.

Showing at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre on UKZN campus from December 7 until January 6, KickstArt’s 14th annual festive season family pantomime is a feast for the eyes along with toetapping songs, jokes aplenty and masses of audience participation.

The 1840s baroque inspired production is directed by Steven Stead, designed by Greg King with choreography by Janine Bennewith, and stars Darren King and Bryan Hiles as the Ugly Sisters, Mthokozisi Zulu as Buttons, Nathan Kruger as the Prince, Lyle Buxton as Dandini and Anne-Marie Clulow as the Fairy Godmother.

Cinderella will be played by newcomer, Roshanda Lewis, chosen from 40 hopefuls in an open audition to play the coveted title role.

Completing the cast are dancers, Tshediso Kubulu; Katherine Anderson; Kirsty Ndawo and returning is Sanele Mzinyane who performed in the 2008 Cinderella production.

Excited to share the production with the audience, Stead said he has always had a love for Cinderella.

“I was utterly enchanted seeing the iconic John Moss version when I was just three years old. My love and awe for theatre began sitting watching this production and it reminds me why I love theatre so much. We always have great fun recreating and re-interpreting this beautiful timeless story,” said Stead.
