Tongaat’s ‘Teezy’ sings from the heart
Teezy is an up and coming hip hop and pop artist who started writing songs when he was in grade seven at Mbonisweni Primary School.
With his positive attitude and dedication to his craft, Thobelani Zwane – a.k.a Teezy – has a very bright future ahead of him.
Teezy is an up and coming hip hop and pop artist who started writing songs when he was in grade seven at Mbonisweni Primary School.
The 26-year-old Tongaat man said through music he discovered that he could express his feelings and send a message of hope to other young people.
“To me this is not just music, but a pillar of strength. Whenever I need to talk, I talk through my music and usually, it helps me feel better, no matter how unhappy I was. When I am happy, I do the same.”
He released his first mix tape in October 2017, titled Ithuba lami, meaning ‘my chance’, and the response was overwhelming. Teezy also performs live at local events and some of his proudest moments include sharing the stage with well known musicians like Duncan, Msawawa and DJ Fisherman at the Tongaat Charity Fair.
He also performed with Zakwe and Maraza at Hot Shots nightclub in Tongaat.

He said his parents were the reason he had made it this far because they always encouraged him not to give up on his dream of becoming one of Mzasi’s greatest musicians.
They allowed him to turn his small bedroom into a recording studio and he hopes that he will one day make them proud.
“All the support I received at home gave me the courage to start a recording label: Home Of Words (KhayaLamaGama) and 032 Empire North Coast.
Teezy said one of the biggest hurdles up and coming artists faced was getting air time on radio stations. But he hopes with his recording label that he can help others get recognised.
