Fun and games coming to the Tongaat charity fair

The Fair promises to be bigger and better than ever.

The countdown to the much anticipated Tongaat Child Welfare charity fair has begun, and locals are in for a real treat this year.

The Fair, which will be held from Wednesday, February 27 to Sunday, March 3, promises to be bigger and better than ever.

It is the welfare’s largest fundraising initiative and the funds raised are used to provide much needed services to the most vulnerable in our communities.

The exciting event that has attracted thousands of people over the years is always great fun for the whole family.

The fun begins on at 9am on Wednesday with a programme dedicated to the senior citizens, organised and directed by ASCOT (Association of Senior Citizens of Tongaat).

Following the success of last year’s “Movies Under the Stars”, another two movies will be screened, starting with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai on Wednesday night and all-time family favourite Finding Nemo on Thursday night. Entrance is by donation and refreshments will be on sale.

Enjoy a movie out in the open.

The Edufair Programme starts on Thursday, February 28 for primary school children and Friday, March 1 for secondary schools.

“We have a snake expert Nick Evans who will be conducting an education programme on both Edufair days,” said Social Work manager Jo Moodley.

“The Edufair line-up also includes a drug awareness programme.”

Friday Night sees local Kwaito artists performing before the premier artist, Manqonqo (Eyadini hit maker).

“If that were not enough, we also have Bello No Gallo of Chanel O and MTV base.”

Saturday sees a variety of artists performing from 10am, as well as interactive sessions on stage with magicians and clowns.

Included in the many kids activities is face painting.

Also featuring on Saturday will be the Verona School of Dance, the band Retro Vibes and M Productions featuring Pinky Mothie.

Then enjoy a comedy and musical extravaganza with Karou Charou and the renowned Conchords.

A memorable night comes to a close with Sketchy Bongo who promises to get you on your feet with his mixes.

One of the biggest attractions from last year’s fair, Little Pony and Company, will be back this year to entertain the little ones on Saturday, and on Sunday at the Checkout Children’s Carnival.

The much loved Little Pony and Company will be back this year.

Little Pony and Company have been awarded one of the top 25 activities in Durban, and is sure to be a hit.

The first 2500 children between the ages of 2 to 12 years old will also receive goody bags courtesy of the Checkout Supermarket Group, and there are tons of prizes to be won.

Sunday’s live music includes Qawwali Band, Asher Chetty’s Gospel Show, Flash Entertainers and Luxmi Stars.

Luxmi Stars are masters in south Indian music.

The Fair entrance fee is R5 for children under 12 and R20 for those 12 and over.
