Amazon women and cake at annual Get It reader event
Speaking at the first Get It Ballito Umhlanga reader event of the year, Zoe Tryon captivated her audience with her raw and deeply personal recounting of her journey.
Deep in the Amazon jungle there was once a young white aristocratic woman from England living with the Achuar tribe.
They were worlds apart and she, a recovering alcoholic and drug addict, was carrying deep wounds from her childhood.
But she was destined to find her healing in the wilderness and become ‘one of the tribe’.

Speaking at the first Get It Ballito Umhlanga reader event of the year on April 4, Zoe Tryon captivated her audience with her raw and deeply personal recounting of her journey.
Tryon spent ten years in the Amazon, where she acted as a cultural liaison between indigenous peoples and Western leaders, advocated environmental and constitutional rights and helped the indigenous people in the largest environmental lawsuit in history.
Tryon is also a Wonderbag ambassador. Seven years ago social entrepreneur and Ballito resident Sarah Collins founded the world’s only non-electric slow cooker, the Wonderbag.

She met Tryon in New York a few years ago and the two quickly became friends.
The audience was also treated to a demonstration by South African celebrity chef Nompumelelo Mqwebu who has recently released her first cookbook, Through the Eyes of an African Chef. Mqweba showed the women how to use their non-electric slow cooker, the Wonderbag, which each lady took home with them.

Mqwebu impressed everyone with a South African staple with a twist, samp and beans in bone marrow.
The event was sponsored by Wonderbag and North Coast Real Estate and beautifully decorated and coordinated by The Creativity Lab.
Goodie bags, lucky draws and delicious Chateau Gateaux cake completed what can only be describe as a fabulous, Afro-chic affair!
