Sprinting for four-legged furries

Dozens of residents laced up their tekkies and enjoyed some early morning fitness, all for a good cause.

Sunshine, blue skies and dozens of happy dogs brightened up the Ballito Village on Saturday morning during the Pooch and Family 5km Fun Run and Walk for Sables Creatures.

Hosted at Concha Cafe, dozens of residents laced up their tekkies and enjoyed some early morning fitness, with some running side-by-side with their four-legged fur friends.

The event was in aid of raising funds for the pro-life animal rescue organisation.

About 69 people took part in the fun run/walk, with Ashton College Grade 10 pupil Janke Spangenberg taking first place.

The 16-year-old said she enjoyed the race and plans on running many more.

“It was a fun race and I will definitely take part in the next one!” said Janke.

Besides the race people got a chance to win lucky prizes, while local artist James Freedom entertained the crowd with his music.
