Shaka’s Head produced film highlights impact of township drug abuse

Leader of the group, Simphiwe Ndlovu, said they were excited to finally be able to achieve their long term goal.

Ulwazi Lethu entertainment group in Shaka’s Head are set to release their first movie next January.

The Zulu language movie, Back for Revenge, shows the impact of drug use in the township, which they believe is the leading cause behind the high rate of rape, theft, murder and other abuse within Shaka’s Head.

Leader of the group, Simphiwe Ndlovu, said they were excited to finally be able to achieve their long term goal.

“We were shooting the movie during lockdown and despite all the problems we had, we have finally managed to complete the movie,” said Ndlovu.

He said the movie focuses on crime and drugs because these were the biggest problems facing residents of the township.

The cast consists of 16 young people from Shaka’s Head, Thembeni and Hambanathi.

“We thank all who came to our aid when we came knocking on their doors for help,” said Ndlovu.

Ulwazi Lwethu specialises in drama, poetry, traditional music, gumboot dance, comedy, hip-hop and vocal music.

They have been performing at events around KwaDukuza for a few years and shooting a movie, is a giant step forward for the group.
