Who knew you could help change lives by doing something as classy as tasting wine!

The Social Oaks, a new wine cellar at The Litchi Orchard in Salt Rock has partnered with The North Coast Courier Orphan Fund to host the Wine Tasting Odyssey event, a fundraiser to help poor matriculants succeed at tertiary education.

With a range of wine stations which are set to feature reds, whites and rosé from 4 regions across South Africa, the event forms part of the Orphan Fund’s bursaries and scholarship funding campaign.

“These scholarships and bursaries go out to the most underprivileged matriculants who are also showing excellent results.

We hope to change circumstances, one child at a time through these scholarships and bursaries,” said Orphan Fund coordinator, Mpume Vilakazi.

“The Social Oaks, run by Chris and Cara McDaniel, is a brand new addition to the Litchi Orchard and is a must-see venue where you can also buy wine,” she said.

Six students will benefit through the bursaries, which provides an allowance with which they are able to buy essential items like food and toiletries.

Sponsors include CMH Toyota Ballito, who sponsored R5 000.

The wine tasting event will be held on Friday, November 5 from 5.30-8.30pm, at a cost of R250 per person, or R200 per person for bookings of 4 or more people.

Light snacks will be served and there will be live entertainment.

To book, contact Mpume at 032 946 0276 or email her at orphanfund@northcoastcourier.co.za.
