#Book Review: The Secret Garden

This coming of age story centres on a particularly arrogant and unpleasant girl called Mary Lennox who, recently orphaned, comes to live with her uncle in England.

On a recent recce to the SPCA Dog Box charity shop I discovered this gem from my childhood.

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett was first published in 1911, and has since enchanted readers worldwide and inspired numerous film adaptations.

While my boys are still too young to enjoy it, I dived into the beautiful fantasy world of enormous English manor houses where Robins and foxes can become your dearest friends and forgotten gardens are crying out to be brought back to life.

This coming of age story centres on a particularly arrogant and unpleasant girl called Mary Lennox who, recently orphaned, comes to live with her uncle in England.

The obnoxious child begins to blossom on a diet of fresh air and sunshine, and when she discovers a sickly boy hidden in forbidden section of the house she finds new purpose in helping him discover life outside the confines of his bedroom.
