A sexy and incredibly spacious family car, the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro perfectly suits a busy mom’s life in the city.

Priced at R496 900 (Distinction) or R574 900 (Executive), the new seven-seater has all the bells and whistles, while keeping its price very attractive when compared to its rivals, including the likes of the Mazda CX-5 and the Volkswagen Tiguan.

Before climbing in, I wondered whether a Chinese made car would live up to my expectations, or would it feel ‘made in China’?

Thankfully my fears were unfounded. She was a dream to drive and with her upmarket interior, the cabin felt top of the range (real leather on the dash and steering wheel, fully digitised touch screens and noticeably comfortable seats).

My children thought being able to ask Siri to play music was the car’s best feature, and I would have to agree that the audio system (supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay) and voice controls did leave me impressed.

Reversing and parking was a breeze with rear park distance control plus a rear-view camera with dynamic guides and a 360-degree parking view.

Having the car lock and unlock itself felt a little odd at first, but it was fabulous to not have to hunt through the recesses of my handbag for my car key when my hands were full of shopping bags. What a win!

The wide-angle rear-view mirror was my least favourite feature, making the people in the back seats appear really small and the cars behind me even smaller. It felt quite peculiar.

However, the addition of a third window in the third row that gave greater all-round visibility when checking the blind spots was a plus.

Hopping into the passenger seats, there was plenty leg and head room, cup holders and a USB port in the first row.

The seats are mounted on rails, making them easy to adjust to give passengers in the far back more leg room.

As one can expect, the back row was a little less spacious and better suited for children (although comfortable for an adult when the seat in front of you is slid as far forward as it can go).

There are drinks and phone holders in the back row, but no USB port.

Boot size is of utmost importance in any family car. With all seven seats up the boot is quite compact at 193l (fairly standard in this segment), but with the back row down the boot becomes quite fabulous with 892l of space (possibly the largest in the segment).

If you need even more space, the front passenger seats fold down too, giving you a whopping 1 930l ‘boot’.

The parcel shelf holding all the emergency tools is easy to access under the boot floor, and the spare tyre is mounted beneath the vehicle.

Chery Tiggo 8 PRO is a stylish ride that will undoubtedly turn heads.
