Newborn found dead in Maphumulo pit latrine

Teenager and her mother arrested.

A newborn baby was found dead in a pit latrine in Maphumulo earlier today.

It is believed a 16-year-old girl concealed her pregnancy and disposed of the newborn in an abandoned 2-metre-deep pit latrine located in her neighbour’s yard.

The infant was reportedly placed in a plastic bag before being dropped down the latrine.

IPSS Search and Rescue, in collaboration with Umhlali SAPS K9 Search and Rescue, retrieved the bag containing the infant’s lifeless body.

Maphumulo police arrested the girl and her mother.
