Tonino Lamborghini makes African debut with Zimbali Lakes development

Construction is expected to begin next year, with a possible completion date in early 2029.

Italian luxury lifestyle brand Tonino Lamborghini has made its African debut through a landmark partnership with Zimbali Lakes, marking a major milestone for the continent’s luxury hospitality sector.

Founded in 1981, the Tonino Lamborghini brand has established a global presence across hospitality, interior design, luxury beverages, accessories and branded real estate, with developments spanning the globe.

Its expansion into South Africa signals growing international interest in Africa’s emerging luxury markets.
The Zimbali Lakes development will feature a mixed-use offering of luxury hotel suites, apartments and private residences, all supported by integrated hospitality services and a flexible ownership model designed to appeal to both investors and lifestyle buyers. Construction is expected to begin next year, with a possible completion date in early 2029.

Tonino Lamborghini said the move aligns with the brand’s history of entering untapped markets.

“Africa represents one of the most dynamic emerging luxury markets globally, and South Africa offers a rare combination of international appeal, natural beauty and long-term growth potential.

“Being a first mover in untapped markets has always been part of my DNA and my brand history. Zimbali Lakes is no exception, and I’m honoured to launch this new project.”

For developer IFA Hotels & Resorts South Africa, the partnership represents a strategic milestone in positioning Zimbali Lakes within the global luxury landscape. CEO Werner Burger said the collaboration validates both the development and the region’s future prospects.

“The decision by a globally respected luxury brand to make its first entry into Africa through Zimbali Lakes is a significant endorsement of both our vision and the long-term potential of the region,” he said.

“We believe Tonino Lamborghini Suites and Residences Zimbali Lakes will establish a distinctive offering within the market and contribute meaningfully to the evolution of luxury tourism and lifestyle investment on the continent.”
