Raising prostate and testicular cancer awareness

The More Balls Than Most (MBTM) movement, which began in 2011, is a brother initiative to PinkDrive.

PROSTATE cancer is the leading cancer in men with more than 4000 men being diagnosed annually in South Africa. That’s just one of the statistics affecting men in the country. However, a cancer initiative is trying to change that statistic by promoting awareness about the importance of early detection of prostate and testicular cancer.

The More Balls Than Most (MBTM) movement, which began in 2011, is a brother initiative to PinkDrive. The MBTM movement was formed to cater for men.

Local resident and PinkDrive‘s KZN administrator, Janice Benecke, said she is trying to spread the word about the movement.

“Early detection really saves lives. MBTM’s focus is prostate and testicular education and awareness. They do PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) tests. The initiative is one way of ensuring that South Africans are educated and made aware of the seriousness of diseases,” she said. “We recently partnered with the Hollywoodbets Dolphins which was fantastic exposure for us. We’d like to roll out the initiative to local clubs like the Crusaders Sports Club or any other sports clubs that would be interested in getting involved.”

The initiative has a SMS line where residents can text MBTM to 40158 at a cost of R20 or visit www.mbtm.co.za for more information.
