DURBAN always delivers when it comes to festivals, fairs and concerts. Get out and enjoy some of the events listed below for this weekend.

Music fest with top performers (Saturday, September 5)

Shimza and Friends return to the Durban Exhibition Centre on Saturday, September 5 for another unforgettable night. Other artists include Dlala Thukzin, Kabza de Small, Sun-El Musician and Dankie Boi. Shimza has been taking over stages around the world, but nothing hits like home.

Food and drinks are available at the bar.

A feast for the senses (Friday, September 4 until Sunday September 6)

THE Durban Street Food Festival returns to The Pavilion Shopping Centre from September 4 until September 6.

Celebrating the very best of food, music, culture, and community, this year’s festival promises to bring together more than 75 food, craft, and lifestyle brands, an exciting entertainment programme, family-friendly attractions, and two of South Africa’s most celebrated headline artists.

Plants bloom at botanic fair (Saturday, September 5, and Sunday, September 6)

THE Botanical Society of SA (BotSoc), KZN Coastal Branch, will host its Plant Fair at the Durban Botanic Gardens on Saturday, September 5, and Sunday, September 6.

Recognised as Durban’s oldest plant fair, the event brings together a selection of local nurseries offering South Africa’s indigenous plants at competitive prices. Proceeds from nursery sales support BotSoc’s plant conservation projects in KwaZulu-Natal.

Find inspiration at Spring show (Saturday, September 5, and Sunday, September 6)

THE Lifestyle and Garden Spring Show takes place on Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6 at the Vuleka Centre in Botha’s Hill.

Visitors can find inspiration for their garden and home while supporting local businesses. The event is family friendly and tickets cost R30 (Free entry for children U13)

The Vuleka Centre is situated on 142 Old Main Road, Bothas Hill. Gates open at 08:30 and the show closes at 15:00.

Pianist to delight music lovers (Sunday, September 6)

Durban-raised international pianist Samir Dookie will present a concert on Sunday morning at St Cyprians Anglican Church in Glenwood at 11:00.

Dubbed an exploration of classical and contemporary music from Beethoven to Bohemian Rhapsody, the vast and eclectic programme includes work by Brahms, Chopin movie themes (Phantom of the Opera and Jurassic Park), and a pop medley (Elton John, Queen, Billy Joel and Michael Jackson).

The concert will take place at St Cypirans Church, 603 Umbilo Road.

There is free and guarded parking. Tickets at the door (R120/R100)
