IT has been a milestone year for Danville Park Girls’ High School Grade 11 learner Amy Wolhuter.
The 16-year-old, who plays for her school’s netball first team, was recently named defender of the tournament at the National All Girls’ Festival in Cape Town.
She was also named in the top 10 All Stars team at the festival.
Earlier this year she was selected for the KZN U17 outdoor netball team and in August she will represent the SA U19 indoor mixed netball team, her second SA call-up.
She will play in the Tri-Nations competition featuring trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand and Australia.
“It’s a huge honour to represent South Africa and it is a dream to wear the green and gold. When I made the U15 team in 2024 it really opened my eyes to a whole new world,” she said.
Coached by a Proteas legend in Precious Mthembu, Amy hopes to one day earn a call-up to the senior women’s team.

Sixteen-year-old Crawford International La Lucia College learner Ruhan Bisnath made his mark in the world of mixed martial arts after proudly representing KZN at the 2026 MMA National Championships on April 30.
Competing in the Youth B 77.1kg division, he secured a silver medal after finishing runner-up in a hard-fought direct final bout. Despite training in the sport for less than a year, Ruhan’s dedication and discipline have already set him apart.
Balancing the demands of school life with an intense training schedule, he committed himself to strict nutrition plans, daily weigh-ins, and rigorous training sessions in preparation for the competition.
“When you train hard for something and believe you can do it, you can. I had to believe in myself, because when I stepped into that cage, I was on my own,” he said.
His efforts paid off when he earned selection to the KZN team following provincial trials held in March.
Stepping into the cage at the nationals in Gauteng, Ruhan showed determination and composure beyond his years, proving himself a formidable competitor on the national stage.
While he may have finished runner-up this time, Ruhan’s performance and mindset have already marked him as a rising talent in South African MMA.
