Robber attacks man with panga in Glenashley

Lucky escape for resident after being attacked by an armed mugger outside a shopping centre in Glenashley.

A LOCAL resident narrowly escaped injury on Tuesday night when he was attacked by a panga-wielding suspect outside a shopping centre in Glenashley. The incident occurred at about 8.30pm.

According to Marshall Security’s Tyron Powell, a security guard on duty at the shopping centre contacted the control room to sound the alarm.

“The guard had seen the attack occur in the parking area. The attacker fled when he saw the security officer, who gave chase. When our reaction unit arrived they searched for the attacker and managed to apprehend him nearby. When our officers arrived back at the centre, the victim had left the scene,” he said.

The suspect was handed over to Durban North SAPS and a case of attempted robbery has been opened.
