Pedestrian dies in hospital after North Coast Road smash

Witnesses allege the pedestrian crossed the busy road out of the designated pedestrian crossing areas.

A WOMAN, believed to be in her early thirties, sadly lost her life following a pedestrian vehicle accident on North Coast Road at the intersection of Victor Road this morning. According to Crisis Medical’s Kyle van Reenen, the accident occurred at about 6.30am.

“The pedestrian was lying in the road, having sustained a traumatic brain injury, and was in a state of cardiac arrest. Advanced life support intervention was quickly administered and after a lengthy effort of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), a pulse was restored and the patient was rushed to a local hospital in a critical condition under advanced care.

“Unfortunately the lady’s injuries were to severe and shortly after hand-over to the hospital, she was declared dead by the doctor on duty. The driver and single occupant of the vehicle which struck her did not sustain any serious injuries and was attended to on scene. Witnesses allege the pedestrian crossed the busy road out of the designated pedestrian crossing areas and was unfortunately struck by the vehicle at high speed,” he said.

The local authorities were on scene and an investigation is underway.
