Rub-a-dub: Grooming pooches for a worthy cause

Pet owners are invited to support the wash-a-thon fundraiser at the Ridge Veterinary Clinic and Pet Spa in aid of the Durban North Neighbour's Rescue Fund.

THE Durban North Neighbour’s Rescue Fund (DNNRF) is once again set to receive a much-needed boost. This time, through a wash-a-thon fundraiser to be hosted by the Ridge Veterinary Clinic and Pet Spa. The fund was recently launched by Kerry Haylett, founder of the Durban North Neighbours (DNN) Facebook page, to assist the dozens of helpless stray animals rescued by the group’s members.

Pet owners are invited to take their dogs for a wash at a special reduced rate in the hope of raising funds for the animal activist group. The organisation is one of several clinics in the area that assist the DNNRF with its efforts to rehabilitate and sterilise rescued stray animals.

“The idea was sparked by the recent cut-a-thon. The DNNRF is still a relatively new organisation and they need all they help they can get in terms of exposure and fundraising,” said practice manager, Zsuzsa James.

James confirmed that all the proceeds raised on the day will be donated to the DNNRF.

“The group helps an enormous number of animals in the area. This is our way of giving back to our community. Through this fundraiser, we will ensure that there are some funds available for the next few rescued animals that are brought into our care,” she said.

Pet owners are urged to ensure that their dogs’ vet cards are up to date before they schedule an appointment for the wash-a-thon. “Appointments are essential. We are hoping to serve at least 30 dogs on the day,” she said.

The cost is R100 for small dogs (under 10kg) and R150 for large dogs (over 10kg). The wash-a-thon will be held on 14 December. Contact 031 566 4505.
