Brazen robbers flag down car in hijacking

The gang suffered a blowout in their getaway attempt and hijacked another vehicle.

A GANG of brazen house robbers hijacked a vehicle in broad daylight after their getaway car broke down on Sunday morning. The incident occurred at about 11am on Umhlangane Road said Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen.

“We were alerted via a neighbourhood WhatsApp group, to an attempted house robbery, which had occurred in the Effingham area. Four armed men arrived at the home in a silver Volkswagen and attempted to gain access to the property as the elderly home owners were arriving home.

“A scuffle broke and the homeowner was assaulted. One of the suspects hit him with the butt of a firearm, before fleeing the scene. However, in their getaway attempt, the vehicle the suspects were using suffered a blow out on Umhlangane Road near the intersection of Corobrick Road. The armed men then hijacked a passing motorist, stealing a Honda CRV,” he said.

Van Reenen added the vehicle, which was fitted with a tracking device, was later found in Ntuzuma.

“Tracker and Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team found the abandoned vehicle on a dirt road in the Ntuzuma area, north of Durban. The suspects remain at large,”
