Calm restored after uMhlanga Hospital drama

The man allegedly broke into the labour ward of the hospital.

A MAN has been placed in a high security psychiatric hospital following a high drama situation at Netcare uMhlanga Hospital’s maternity ward. Following a stand-off between police and Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team (SOT), the man, later identified as a psychiatric patient in his 30s, was taken into custody.

According to Marshall Security’s Kyle van Reenen, the man managed to get into the labour ward of the hospital.

“The man was abusive and aggressive and began breaking mirrors in the ward. The maternity ward had to be evacuated. The man was contained to the ward before SAPS and Marshall Security took the man into custody. He was fully compliant in the end and was handed over to the SAPS under the care of Netcare 911 paramedics. He has been placed in a high security psychiatric hospital. No one was injured in the ordeal and the man was not armed,” he said.
