THE rain could not deter members of the Ban Animal Trading who hosted an Empty the Tanks event on the Durban promenade on Saturday. The movement calls for the release of all captive marine mammals into the wild. Several protests took place simultaneously around the world with as many as 11 countries participating.

In a Facebook post, Ban Animal Trading said marine entertainment parks have no place in the world anymore.

“Most people were completely unaware that dolphins are anything but happy and loved in captivity. This highlights how important it is for us to continue creating awareness around the truth behind cetacean captivity.

“The message behind the movement gets louder and more defiant every time it is spread – it widens the circle of compassion and brings us closer to reaching our goal, ending the use of dolphins and whales in the marine entertainment industry,” Ban Animal Trading said in a statement.
