Vegan Day promotes benefits of the diet

ON 1 November 1994 the UK Vegan Society declared this day as World Vegan day. Days of the Year website reports that along with celebrating the start of the Vegan Society, Vegan Day is an opportunity to promote the benefits of a vegan diet and veganism in general.

They said: “The term Vegan was coined by Donald Watson and derived from the word Vegetarian. At that time, the differentiation was that Vegans did not consume dairy products. Later this extended to eggs, and by 1951, veganism had become a movement of people who did not partake in the exploitation of animals.”

On their website they added that though many people believe humans are ‘meant’ to be carnivores vegans believe dairy cows live in inhumane conditions and abstain from animal products because they find factory farming cruel and inhumane.
