One injured as truck smashes into Oyster Box wall

The driver of the truck escaped with minor injuries.

A TRUCK has crashed into the outer wall of the Oyster Box Hotel and also damaged a vehicle in its path. According to Netcare 911 spokesman, Shawn Herbst, the driver of the truck said his brakes failed causing the truck to careen out of control going downhill.

“The driver is still in shock but escaped with minor injuries. We will be taking him to a nearby hospital for further care. It is alleged the truck’s brakes failed going down the hill on Lighthouse Road. The truck also smashed into a bakkie which was in its path, luckily the driver of that vehicle managed to jump out of the way before the truck crashed into it. The truck came to a stop after smashing into the wall of an uMhlanga hotel,” he said.

According to the Umhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP), all necessary services are on scene.

It is unclear at this stage how much damage has been done to the award-winning hotel.
