SASSA announces cut-off date for special Covid-19 grant appeals

Beneficiaries have until 28 February to appeal applications for the grant that were made between November 2020 and January 2021.

THE  Social Relief of Distress grant introduced in response to the Covid-19 pandemic will be paid until January 2021. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) said beneficiaries have until 28 February to appeal applications for the grant that were made between November 2020 and January 2021.

“SASSA has determined a cut-off date for lodging appeals in respect of declined Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress grants. The purpose is to strengthen administrative controls in the management of this grant and to give effect to a conducive environment for accounting,” said SASSA in a statement.

All appeals will be treated in a fair and transparent manner said SASSA.

“Applicants that are aggrieved by the decision to decline their applications are requested to provide reasons why they think the SASSA decision was incorrect or provide a motivation when lodging their appeals,” said SASSA.

Declined applicants who already lodged appeals need not re-apply nor re-appeal. SASSA will send them the outcome of their appeals through SMS.
Appeals can be lodged in the SASSA website or by sending an email to covid19appeals@sassa.gov.za.
