“Reports from the scene allege that a number of suspects robbed a jewellery store at Gateway. No injuries were reported,” van Reenen said.

According to reports, the suspects fled in a silver Mercedes-Benz that was spotted traveling south towards Amanzimtoti.

Gateway marketing manager, Michelle Shelley, confirmed the robbery had taken place.

“Gateway’s security and tactical team responded to the scene, while the control room followed camera footage. The perpetrators got into a vehicle near the circle and subsequently headed South. There were no shots fired as per information circulating on social media and nobody was injured,” Shelley said. “Gateway is working with both SAPS and private security professionals to ensure a safe shopping experience for customers. This remains the centres number one priority.”
