New development in Avoca will create jobs
The property is also sitting on a large gas supply which Investec plans on using to generate energy for The Brickworks, and possibly to find users to assist with energy supply.
DURBAN’S old Corobrik site in Avoca will transition into a warehousing and logistics space, attracting both national and international users.
Developers, Investec Property, estimates the total development will be valued at over R6-billion, comprising three phases including the top structure.

Construction will begin in the second half of 2022. Aptly called The Brickworks, and in order to keep some of the land’s history, the development forms part of the eThekwini Municipality’s Economic Development Incentive Policy (EDIP), which aids investment and contributes to job creation in the city.

“The logistics hub has the potential to create over 16 000 permanent jobs. At the moment, 137 people from Ward 110 have been employed at the site,” said joint-CEO David Rosmarin.
He added that phase two and three are planned to take place over a six-to-eight-year period, but this depended largely on demand.
“Should there be a demand for the next phases sooner then we anticipate, we will commence with construction sooner,” he said.
