WATCH: Local residents start cruise club along Durban promenade

The Kruze Klub, founded by Durban North residents Luke Seaborne, Pascal Tostee and Brigitte Panagiotopoulos, started a Friday afternoon cruise session along the promenade.

THERE is no beating the beauty of the Durban Promenade in all its glory on a Friday afternoon.

It is something a group of longboarders know all about, as they cruise along Durban’s Golden Mile, while reaching out to a community on wheels.

This is the Kruze Klub, founded by Durban North residents Luke Seaborne, Pascal Tostee and Brigitte Panagiotopoulos, who have started a Friday afternoon cruise session along the promenade.

There are no rules and they are bound by the phrase ‘all wheels are welcome’ explains Seaborne.

“Essentially the Kruze Klub started out with a group of friends, starting off the weekend in the best way possible. We meet every Friday outside the Marine Surf Lifesaving Club and between 17:00 and 19:00 we cruise along to the end of the new promenade. There is no charge to join and all you need is wheels.

“It started out with wanting to organise a session where people can get together and skate together. I work with Pascal at a local surf shop and as word got out there, people began to show up to join in. We wanted to foster inclusivity and form a community on wheels. There have been a lot of new people coming in and when you are starting out, it’s great to learn from other skaters,” he explained.

Seaborne’s girlfriend, Brigitte Panagiotopoulos, echoed his sentiments.

“We have moms with prams, cyclists, skateboarders, longboarders and roller skaters join us. It is a great way to meet new people, find a community of like-minded individuals. It is a mixture of people with different levels of skill and we are open to everyone. I love longboarding and being outdoors on the Durban Promenade is particularly stunning, especially on a winter’s evening,” she said.

Another longboarder who catches peoples’ eyes is Lethu Mazibuko from Chesterville.

Known as the dancing longboarder, he performs tricks while cruising along the promenade.

Lethu Mazibuko, also known as the dancing longboarder also joins the cruise sessions.

“I’ve been doing this since 2018. The moves I perform depend on the music I’m listening to. Electro and house music are the best companions. I generally cruise along the promenade when I can but I enjoy rolling with the Kruze Klub on a Friday afternoon and I hope others join us,” Mazibuko said.
