How to prepare for rainy days when on holiday

Here are a few tips of what people can do to still enjoy their holiday if it rains.

THE October holidays are just around the corner, and depending on where in the country you are venturing off to, being spring, you could encounter a rainy day or two.

Choose a destination with indoor activities:

When you’re travelling with children, it’s essential to have a plan for indoor entertainment, especially on rainy days. There are resorts that offer a wide array of indoor activities, including tennis tables, pool tables and various games to keep children engaged.

Pack board games:

Board games are a timeless source of entertainment that can turn a rainy day into a memorable bonding experience with family and friends. Be sure to pack your favourite board games and a deck of cards. Whether it’s the excitement of Monopoly, laughter-inducing rounds of Pictionary or even a classic card game, games are great fun and are bound to brighten up any gloomy weather day.

Explore by car:

Make the most of the changeable weather by booking accommodation in an area with nearby attractions accessible by car. Rainy days provide an excellent opportunity to explore local museums, galleries or quaint towns, ensuring your holiday remains rich with experiences, no matter the forecast.

Embrace nature’s beauty:

Rain can transform the natural landscape, creating breathtaking scenery. In the case of drizzle or light rain, don’t let a few raindrops deter you from exploring the great outdoors. Pack waterproof gear and embark on a refreshing hike in the berg or stroll through lush gardens. Remember to capture the beauty of nature in the rain as it often yields unique and unforgettable memories.

Indulge in a spa treatment:

Treat yourself to some pampering at your resort’s spa. You can choose a soothing couple’s massage, relax in the sauna, or spoil yourself with a revitalising facial.

Culinary adventures:

Rainy days are ideal for culinary exploration and indulging in comfort foods. Savour the local cuisine by trying out one of the restaurants, cafes, or bistros in the area. Who can resist the charm of a delicious meal shared with loved ones in a cosy venue? It can be a delightful way to spend a rainy afternoon, satisfying your taste buds and warming your soul.

“Whether it’s sunny skies or a gentle drizzle, seize the opportunity to create magical and lasting memories during your October break. These are the moments that will linger with you long after your holiday comes to an end,” added Lamont.
