uMhlanga prepares for a vibrant festive season

As the festive season approaches, the uMhlanga Urban Improvement Precinct (UIP) is wrapping up a series of special projects to ensure the precinct is ready to welcome visitors and provide residents with a beautifully maintained hometown to enjoy.

With most of the work now completed, final touches are being added to the projects that span the uMhlanga Promenade and the uMhlanga Village areas. The UIP’s efforts make the precinct safe, beautiful and accessible for everyone who lives, works or visits here.

Promenade upgrades

The uMhlanga Promenade has seen significant improvements, with several projects completed:

  • Pushcarts for ease of cleaning
  • Stump cutting on beaches to clear debris
  • Balustrades repaired to enhance safety
  • Subsiding pavers fixed for accessibility
  • Forest Boardwalk pressure cleaned and extended
  • Main Beach Boom Gate installed
  • Repaired and varnished benches for cleanliness

Final signage upgrades are on track to be completed soon, ensuring a welcoming space for all.

“These upgrades are about creating a space that is not only beautiful but also functional and secure,” said Jarrod Evans, UrbanMGT Head: Northern Operations. “We’re committed to making uMhlanga a top choice for holidaymakers while ensuring it remains a cherished home for residents.”

Village enhancements

The uMhlanga Village area has also been revitalised with a series of completed projects:

  • Arch and light poles freshly painted
  • Bin area roof repaired for a cleaner aesthetic
  • PnP benches revamped for comfort
  • M4 Eastern verge cut back to improve access
  • M4 Islands Westside clearing nearing completion
  • Village Green upgrade progressing steadily

“The Village is more than just a commercial hub – it’s a vibrant part of our community,” said Dewet Geldenhuys, Precinct Manager. “These projects reflect our dedication to preserving its charm and ensuring it’s ready for the festive season.”
