Woman rescued after near-drowning incident in uMhlanga
The woman was swept out into the water mid-break after losing her footing in the shore break.
LIFEGUARDS on uMhlanga Beach successfully resuscitated a woman after a near-drowning incident at the Whalebone Pier on Monday afternoon.
According to Shawn Herbst, Netcare 911 spokesperson, the woman was swept out into the water mid-break after losing her footing in the shore break just after 17:30.

“Members of the public who had witnessed the event jumped into the water to rescue her after noticing she had disappeared underwater. A search was conducted by the members of the public who rushed to her aid, where she was found submerged in the water.
“The unresponsive woman was successfully brought to shore where lifeguards were able to start treating her. The patient had a pulse but was barely breathing, and she was resuscitated on the beach. When medics arrived on the scene, an emergency-care practitioner took over the treatment,” Herbst explained.
Once stabilised, the patient was transported to hospital for further care.
