Treat your pooch to a great parade in uMhlanga
An array of entertainment has been planned for the entire family and your fur friends. This includes craft, food and pet-related markets, a reptile show and much more.
IF walks in the park or along the beach are no longer cutting it for you and your fur baby, then the Pooch and Pet Day at The Crescent may be just what you need to liven up your pet’s social life.
The event, in its sixth year, takes place at the shopping centre’s upper parking on May 27, between 10:00 and 14:00.

Kalpana Ramsamy, marketing manager for The Crescent, said the aim of the event is to raise much-needed funds and awareness for two animal rescue organisations.
“Feral Cat Rescue Trust and Phoenix Animal Care and Treatment (PACT) are close and dear to The Crescent. All funds will go to these well-known organisations,” she said.
Neeri Naidoo, founder of PACT, said the organisation is grateful to The Crescent for the assistance.
“Cases of abandoned animals are always on the increase, and kennels are always at maximum capacity. To keep saving animals’ lives, we need funds and fundraisers such as this, which is why we are so grateful to the mall,” she said.
Some dogs and puppies will be available for adoption or fostering on the day.
“If you haven’t heard about PACT, come and meet us and our volunteers and fosters and see what we’re all about,” she said.
Tracey Hartley of Feral Cat Rescue said she was also extremely grateful for the mall hosting such a fundraiser.
“The organisations take care of feral cats all over Durban and make this possible, but we are always in need of funding. We are also looking for volunteers, trappers and feeders, so if you’re keen, come visit us at the event for more information,” she said.

Stalls cost R500 inclusive of VAT, and includes a table and two chairs.
The highlight of the day is the Pooch Contest where supporters can enter their pooches into different categories most suited to them at a fee of R70 per pooch.
The categories are:
• Best-dressed pooch
• Biggest pooch
• Smallest pooch
• Most pampered pooch
• Best pooch/owner look-alike
• Best obedient pooch and
• Best pooch trick
