Effingham bar robbed by armed suspects

Two of the robbery suspects posed as customers.

A GANG of armed suspects robbed a bar on Effingham Road on Monday afternoon.

According to Sanveer Sooklall, spokesperson for Swift Private Security, the incident occurred at about 14:00.

“Two suspects, posing as customers, placed orders for alcoholic beverages. Meanwhile, two other suspects entered the bar with firearms, threatening the staff. The staff were then locked at the back of the bar while the suspects proceeded to steal an undisclosed amount of cash from the bar.

“The suspects immediately fled from the premises. It remains uncertain whether they arrived on foot or by means of a vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were sustained by anyone involved, although the victims are traumatised. Greenwood Park South African Police Service (SAPS) arrived at the scene to register a case,” he said.

The robbery came hours after a house robbery on Belmont Road, also in Effingham.

In that case, armed suspects entered the premises as the homeowners opened the gate to let in their domestic worker.
