Baby Home Durban North to highlight adoption at ball

The ball, which was hosted for the first time in 2017, has seen more than R100 000 raised since its inaugural event.

THE Baby Home Durban North will host a charity ball to highlight World Adoption Day on Saturday, November 11 at Coastlands Hotel, uMhlanga.

Jo Teunissen, who runs The Baby Home, helps provide love, care and a safe environment for vulnerable and abandoned babies.

The ball, which was hosted for the first time in 2017, has seen more than R100 000 raised since its inaugural event.

Danny Guselli will be the MC of the event, and Brent Lindeque (The Good Things Guy) will be the guest speaker.

There will also be a fun collaboration with artist Shaun Oakley (That Damn Vandal), and Shelley McLean will provide entertainment.

Teunissen said the goal of the ball is to raise awareness on adoption.

“This is one of our biggest events of the year. The whole idea behind the ball is to use it as a fundraiser for the home but also to create awareness around adoption. I think many people see it as a rigmarole, and we hope the event will highlight the success stories, and it’s just a beautiful opportunity to share and celebrate adoption.

“It is also about trying to give people a better understanding of what adoption entails and how it all works. We also wanted to use the event to celebrate the adoptions we have had and create awareness of what we do. The turn-out and support from last year was great, and we are hoping for more of the same this year,” she said.

Teunissen added that there will be a number of exciting performances on the evening.

“We’ve chosen Symphony of Love as the theme for this year’s ball and there will be lots of music tied in with it. We have a drumline and a marimba band. We are really grateful to Danny, Brent, Shaun and Shelley for coming on board. I can’t say too much, but we have a very exciting collaboration with Shaun as part of the ball. We are calling on Durbanites to come out and support the fundraiser. We’ve always received overwhelming support, and we hope for the same this year,” she said.
