Teams ‘conquer’ obstacles for The Baby Home

A total of R14 000 was raised at this year’s event.

TEAMS brought the carnival spirit with their outfits and colours at this year’s Conquer fundraiser for The Baby Home Durban North.

The event hosted at Redwood College La Lucia was a fun non-timed obstacle course race (OCR) team event where the emphasis was on fun, teamwork and helping each other overcome obstacles, all for a good cause.

Glen Anil resident Jo Teunissen, who runs the home, said that R14 000 was raised at this year’s event.

Like last year, Teunissen partnered with Adventure Obstacle Training (AOT) who set out the obstacle course for competitors.

“Without a doubt, this was a resounding success. We are very pleased. We had a bigger turnout than last year, and we were able to raise more than last year which was just fantastic. Trish and Claude Eksteen from AOT did a great job this year by rearranging some of the obstacles in the middle of the school field which made the event more spectator-friendly.

“Another pleasing aspect was how many people embodied the spirit of this year’s theme – carnival. I absolutely loved the outfits and energy. The Conquer event is now a permanent fixture on our fundraising calendar, and I cannot wait for next year,” she said.

Teunissen also explained how the event was given the name Conquer.

“We called the event Conquer because of the parallel to our lives. We all have obstacles and challenges in our lives, and we can overcome our own obstacles if we put our mind to it and get support from the people around us. It was a fun team challenge where you help one another and work together as a team of six to get over and complete all the various obstacles,” she said.
